Bay Breaker_By Moebius

One of the basic markers of mega-cities in progress is the push and pull between nature and the man-made. Nature is often made to bend to infrastructure but as time passes, nature has a way to reclaim these structures, sprouting out of cracks and fissures. Similarly, in Mumbai, the Arabian sea is at a constant tug of war with concrete. Concrete tetrapods, also called Baybreakers are a fence made to protect us from the wrath of water. This alternation of forces is very much a metaphor for the aspirations of an urban population. The contradiction of desiring a daily view of the sea while also being as deep in the heart of this concrete jungle as possible. A violent resonating crash of a wave against concrete is the score against which our hustle to have it all unfolds in this city.
